Knowing Who You Are

One of the single most important things in this world is KNOWING WHO YOU ARE!  The second most important thing is to whom you remain connected to!

We were driving home the other day from Birmingham, and a message appeared on an electronic sign above interstate alerting the traffic of an elderly person lost.  It gave description of the vehicle and tag number.  This sparked a discussion with my daughter about the meaning of the message.  I explained to her that sometimes when people get older, they forget how to get home and maybe even who they are. This sign connected the person looking for their loved one with everyone driving on the interstate, which in turn increased the odds in finding him/her quickly.  The interstate also has signs and markers to help identify one’s location. This too is invaluable information!

This reminds me of my younger self when so many times I took a wrong turn in life and found myself surrounded by the wrong crowd.  Praise The God of Heaven that we serve a God who made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a man, and became obedient unto death, and was raised to sit at the right hand of the Father, and in doing so, released unto us the Gift of the Holy Spirit.  We have a instant 24/7 connection to: The Most High God. There is no where we can go that he can’t find us.  There is no path that we can take that does not have a way back to Him!  He beckons and calls to us when we begin to get off track! He sets up flashing caution signs in our paths.  We either recognize them as a safe detour back on track, and change our direction, or we ignore them and believe we know best.  The two have very different outcomes.  One path leads to peace and contentment. However, the other to downward spiraling of frustration, confusion and dangerous, dark pits of despair.

One day while reading my Bible I discovered that I am a joint heir with Christ. This is not because of anything good in me, but because when I accepted him as Savior, his inheritance became my inheritance.  This makes all the difference in how I walk on this earth.  He has taught me what he meant by praying, His Kingdom come, His will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.  (Matthew 6:10)  This means we must:

  • Walk with eyes open for Kingdom opportunity.
  • Stay aware of the people He sends us each day.
  • Stay in His Word daily so that we stay in direct access with Him. His word is alive and sharp and it sharpens me daily. It cuts through bone and marrow: selfish thoughts and actions, wrong thinking and unhealthy attitudes.  (For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires. Hebrews 4:12 NLT)
  • Stay in constant conversation with him, which means we have to not only speak to him, we must listen as well.  Recognizing his voice, hearing him speak to you comes through the relationship that you have with him.  It’s a lot easier to recognize a friend’s voice in a crowd when you talk to them a lot!! His voice over time, will drown out the other thoughts occupying our minds when we train ourselves to listen to it.  {My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.  John 10:27 NKJV}
  • Stay with like minded people. Encouraging one another daily.

Following His plan for you and not man’s plan often sets you apart from the norm. So get ready to be judged and misunderstood!  No bother, he has already cleared that road of debris for you!! Who was more misunderstood in his time than Jesus?  When His Holy Ghost Fire burns in you, you have to live and speak it.

My encouragement to you is get reacquainted with his word! Find out who you are in Christ! Your inheritance is more than what’s to come in Heaven. You have inherited much on this earth!

What? So you’ve failed him multiple times? Repent and mean it! Get up, dust yourself off and RUN with Him.  Hang on though, it’s a wild ride!!
